Nonprofit Leadership Studies Degree Highlights

This degree is designed to prepare students with a skillset geared towards both the public and private nonprofit sector.

Our department's full-time faculty consists of 12 nationally recognized experts in their fields. Our faculty have published extensively in scholarly journals and presented research at national conferences.

Courses address topics such as volunteer management and recruitment, fundraising, grant writing, philanthropy, leadership, finance and community resources.

You'll learn the essentials of directing nonprofit organizations such as leadership, management, marketing and operations.

Nonprofit Leadership Studies Degree Courses You Could Take

Overview of organizational leadership theory and practice for volunteer managers and community leaders. Students examine and develop a range of skills in a number of interpersonal areas: group dynamics, decision-making, managing differences, and leadership and influence as they pertain to primarily nonprofit organizations and their ability to lead a volunteer workforce.

Analyzes systems that measure community assets and resources. Explores the means of identifying and approaching potential collaborative community partners, and focuses on the development of joint proposals and/or business plans.

Explores an overview of fundraising practices in nonprofits. Students learn how to assess the financial health of organizations, understand fiscal responsibility of nonprofits, and develop and implement fundraising strategies.

Examines the diverse and sometimes competing demands of people of color, women, the elderly, sexual orientation and the economically disadvantaged on public policy development and execution. Addresses how public managers respond to the demands of diverse interests in American cities.

Introduces entrepreneurial concepts that can be used to stimulate entrepreneurial behavior in individuals for the benefit of communities. Students study best practices of not-for-profit enterprises and social venturing practices and learn how these enterprises launch and sustain their ventures.

Foundational course for students interested in a career in nonprofit leadership studies. Examination of the philosophy, values, roles and responsibilities in nonprofit studies in today鈥檚 society. An examination of historical events leading to the creation of nonprofit organizations and their impact on our communities.
