Why Earn a Public Administration Minor?
The Public Administration minor is designed to introduce you to the study and practice of managing government agencies and nonprofit organizations. Courses offer an examination of the planning, implementation and valuation of the partnerships, leadership styles, organizational systems and other resources needed for effective management of programs, agencies and other large-scale organizations.
Public Administration Minor Highlights
Our faculty have published extensively in scholarly journals and presented research
at national conferences. Our department's full-time faculty consists of 12 nationally
recognized experts in their fields.

Learn program planning and evaluation and how to analyze the effects of societal trends
on programs and projects
Our program offers face-to-face, online and blended course formats to support the
busy college student.
A strong feature of the program is our close affiliation with city governments and
planning consulting firms within the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This allows us to provide
great opportunities for students to network with local leaders in community development,
as well as gain tangible field and work experience.
Public Administration Minor Courses You Could Take
Public Management (3 hrs)
Introduction to organization and management theories and practices as they concern
federal, state and local governments.
Cultural Competency in Urban Governance (3 hrs)
Examines the diverse and sometimes competing demands of people of color, women, the
elderly, sexual orientation and the economically disadvantaged on public policy development
and execution. Addresses how public managers respond to the demands of diverse interests
in American cities.
Population Demographics and Urban Planning (3 hrs)
Examination of population trends and changes and the impact of growth on urban form
and planning processes.
Bureaucracy and Public Policy (3 hrs)
Study of the nature of bureaucracy, its role in policy development and the problem
of bureaucratic responsibility.
Issues in Public Administration (3 hrs)
In-depth investigation of a contemporary issue of concern to public managers. Possible
topics include managing nonprofit organizations, public-private partnerships and ethics
in government.
Public Administration (3 hrs)
Organizations and management in executive departments, and national, state and municipal
governments; bureaucracy; administrative theory; budgeting; personnel and administrative
leadership.
